Tranquilizers Tranquilizers are used as an effective sedative. As the name suggests, a tranquilizer induces tranquility in a person. Sedatives can be abused to produce an overly-calming effect and can result in unconsciousness and even death.

Default Abusive use of tranquilizers

Too much of everything is bad enough. Tranquilizers are used to cure anxiety problems or lack of sleep; however, tendencies are, if overused/abused, will lead to adverse health problems which can result to addiction.

Simple: The key here is proper doctor’s prescription and clinical monitoring. These medicines are needed to cure illnesses, we just cannot eradicate it because of the fear that it might be abused. This should be regulated, though. I think drugstores really don’t sell this kind of medicine to customers if there is no doctor’s prescription.

I totally agree. With the benefits brought by tranquilizers to people who need it, this should not be banned. To note, tranquilizers are among the most commonly prescribed medication by psychiatrists - which only proves that this medicine is really very effective.

As addition ---- because of its proven effectiveness to reduce nervousness, many users tend to abuse it. It becomes addictive to those who use it. Addiction because the tolerance level progresses; hence, a higher intake is being done in order for it to be effective.

I agree. That’s why drugstores should not be “loose” in terms of selling products such as tranquilizers. They should see the doctor’s prescription and how much is being prescribed by the doctor to be bought.

You should be very careful when using tranquilizers... when you overuse it, you can experience any one of the following side effects:

slurred speech,
staggering gait,
poor judgment, and
slow, uncertain reflexes.

they tend to depress the central nervous system

tranquilizers actually have a lot of other effects:

The effects may appear immediately and then last for days!

· feeling relaxed and having that floating sensation
· depressed heartbeat and breathing
· cause mental confusion
· cause physical unsteadiness
· induce long periods of sleep and cause drowsiness
· reduce feelings of anxiety
· less emotional reactions
· reduced mental alertness
· shorter attention span
