Tranquilizers Tranquilizers are used as an effective sedative. As the name suggests, a tranquilizer induces tranquility in a person. Sedatives can be abused to produce an overly-calming effect and can result in unconsciousness and even death.

Default Tranquilizer abuse

How do you know when another person is taking more tranquilizer than allowed? What are the signs to look out for in another person you believe is abusing the drug?

Improper use or abuse of tranquilizer could result in these unpleasant, and even dangerous, side effects:

* depressed heartbeat
* addiction
* difficulty focusing or concentrating
* a "floating" or disconnected sensation
* excessive sleep and sleepiness
* depressed breathing
* mental confusion and memory loss

Tranquilizers are dangerous when taken in combination with other depressants (e.g. alcohol or barbiturates) because this combo will magnify each other's effects. In rare instances, tranquilizers could produce a so-called "paradoxical effect," which leads to increased agitation or anxiety. These paradoxical reactions may be more common among children and the elderly. The long-term use of some of these drugs had been associated with increased aggressiveness as well as significant depression. Tranquilizer use may be associated with memory problems and cerebral atrophy (brain shrinkage). So it's best to seek help for a tranquilizer-addicted person before the addiction worsens and things get more dangerous.

Tranquilizers are often victims of violence because of their ability to reduce anxiety. They are addictive because tolerance develops rapidly, and more and more necessary to be effective. The effects of sedation is a continuum of relaxing sedation to coma and death.
