Tranquilizers Tranquilizers are used as an effective sedative. As the name suggests, a tranquilizer induces tranquility in a person. Sedatives can be abused to produce an overly-calming effect and can result in unconsciousness and even death.

Default Doctor wants to put me on them

My doctor suggested a course of tranquilizers to me, I was a little taken aback as I am afraid that I become dependant on them, I asked him if I could think about it and maybe research something alternative, he is not for alternative health but I would prefer not to become dependant. Are tranquilizers addictive ? what would my chances be of becoming addicted ?

Xanax is very addictive so be careful. Buspar is good for anxiety and it is not addictive at all. It works pretty good for anxiety and nervousness.

although tranquilizers do serve a valid purpose, please remember that they will prolong your reaction time and possibly give you a deffered sense of reality. you might want to keep yourself in safe surroundings and around trusted friends until you discover how they effect you.

It might be worth looking into the alternative health option like you said, as you could find something that will really help you and avoid you going on the tranquilizers. However, I would say that this probably depends on your situation and how severe your problem is. Sometimes a tranquilizer could help you, and as long as you are very careful and still read up on whichever tranquilizer you take and keep aware of your reliance on it, you will be fine.

There are many drugs out there that calm the nervous system, and work well for anxiety. There are many herbal pills that can help too. I think you should ask your doctor what options you have. Xanax is very dangerous to take for the long term, so maybe there are better options available for you.

Wow, have you tried anything else first? Any other medicine for the problem. I would think tranquilizers would be a last option. How would you get these? Self injection or going to the doctor each time you need one.
I would certainly get a second opinion before I started tranquilizers. Just my opinion.
Yes they can be addictive.

I would get a second opinion before I go on tranquilizers, or at least do some intensive online research.
