Quaaludes There was a time when Quaaludes or methaqualone was quite popular in the United States as a drug for insomnia, and as a sedative and muscle relaxant. The highly addictive properties of Quaaludes led to their withdrawal from the market and classification as a Schedule I controlled substance.

that is why illegal drugs are much more dangerous because you get it everywhere if you know where to look and have the money to pay for it.

Quaaludes is a sedatives.

Sometimes given to people who are highly stressed to help them relax, or in a lot of pain.

Why are quaaludes designated as a schedule 1 drug? Isn't that the most dangerous/potent catagory of all the prescribed medication? I have never heard any stories of anyone dying from a quaalude overdose, has anyone else here heard anything?

You don't here as much about Quaaludes as you used to but they used to be very popular back in the '70's. You would here reports of people overdosing on Quaaludes then as often as you hear about Meth now.

I went to college in the 70's too. Actually, I was one of those kids into the drug scene. 'Ludes were very popular and very, very easy to get. Parties would have bowls full of them and yes I've seen someone overdose on them.
Thank God we got him to an ER in time for them to get him back. It was a bad scene.

medical literature should have cases of overdose, Luc... it's rare that a drug won't have overdose cases and while death from overdose could be rare with some drugs, it still happens.

also, quaaludes were discontinued in the 80s so while some people might be able to get hold of it today, it might be under another name.

Thanks for that DocMon, I get what you mean when you say that all drugs are prone to be abused and overdose and death could be a very likely outcome.

I was wondering, are the statistics that we have on death and overdose accurate, or are there cases that go unreported? Also would hospitals be required to have such a documentation?
