Default Anti-Smoking?

I have read that Wellbutrin is also prescribed as an anti-smoking drug. Now, if you were a smoker and not depressed, would the drug have an odd effect on you?

I'm on it to stop smoking and I don't notice anything. To be honest it isn't even helping me quit smoking! I think it is a low dose and that could be why the anti-depressents don't seem to effect me.

Yes, while the drug is often prescribed to help people quit smoking I have not read much from people talking about how successful it is.

I have had a couple friends who are on it to help with the smoking. I think it is suppose to help with the nervousness. It all depends on the person I think.

I was put on wellbutrin because it is suppose to help with all addictions. I have a carbohydrate addiction. My doctor thought it would cut down on the cravings--it is suppose to have the less side effect of weight gain.

It didn't work for me and it has only worked for one of my friends who is trying to quit smoking.

I know a few people that tried this drug to stop smoking. It didn`t work for them at all. I`ve seen very little positive things about this drug and smoking.

I quit smoking on Chantix though I have tried to do cold turkey on two occasions, but of no use. I have smoked for around 5 yrs with pack a day. Thanks to chantix and the support my family provided me. It really helped me to get over my nicotine addiction and I donít feel craving anymore. There is one thing which I would like to share and which helped me a lot initially, try having a glass of water when you feel craving the most. It a tough road but it's worth so best luck to all those who want to give up smoking.

My friend used Chantix. It didn`t work for her though. I have tried many times to quit. I do know that when you get the craving for a smoke it doesn`t last long. If you fight it the next one won`t be as strong. But when I get stressed the first thing I want is a smoke and nothing works . I`ve been to a smoking cessation class and they said to never stop trying to quit because one day you will make it.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Varenecline, or Chantix are prescribed as an alternative to nicotine replacement therapy, and has been proven to be more effective than NRT. And yes, it is FDA approved.

It may have been approved by the FDA but it is more of a conditional approval, meaning it is only to be used for 12 weeks. If it is successful in helping you stop smoking, then you can continue it for another 12 weeks.
