Default Cystal Meth Anonymous

Has anyone here tried the Crystal Meth Anonymous? A friend of mine has and he's showing really great results. This is a 12-step program where people who are addicted to methamphetamine or crystal meth help each other stay clean. The members meet in group settings and share information as well as provide support to each other. They rely on the 12-step program to get and stay clean. The good thing is that there are no formal fees or dues charged to those who want to attend the meetings. So even those who are financially challenged can take part. The groups support themselves via donations from its members.

By this 12-step program you mean the same program developed by the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, right?

Yes. Same program.

And the first step in working this CMA program is by admitting that you cannot stop using meth through your own efforts alone and that you need to surrender yourself to a Higher Being or Higher Power in order to be able to deal with your addiction. You must decide that you need and want help in order to achieve your goal to get and stay clean.

Actually, with the program involving acknowledging and surrendering to a Higher Being or a God, many have criticized it and the model being used. They argue that the idea of turning one's life over to God or a Higher Power is offensive to those addicts who are not religious, considering that the group is open and willing to help everyone who is living with and who has decided to fight against an addiction.

I don't think it matters whether the program introduces a God or not. I personally think it's very good. Addicts should be able to acknowledge that there's a being out there who's more superior and whom they can turn to at times when they feel weak and at times they get the urge to get back to their old ways or habits.

And who are these people who have criticized the program? The meth addicts who refuse to be well and to be cured out of their dependence on the drug? Because honestly, if you are not, then why would you find fault in a program that has helped a lot of people? Don't you think getting out of one's addiction and learning to be a believer in God is a million times better than retaining your religious belief (or lack thereof) -- in the name of religious freedom -- but staying an addict and eventually ending up dead on your bathroom floor?
