I hear that depressed patients may become suicidal with these drugs. This is because their fear or anxiety about dying and death is removed. It is, however, difficult to use these drugs as a means of killing yourself... but taking them could make it easier to do...

That's the reason why these are not prescribed alone and in high dosages... but usually together with other drugs

To be sure, ask your doctor or read the data sheet provided by the manufacturer, that will give you an idea of what the side effects are.

I don't agree that lorazepam is not fatal. Maybe in itself it's not, but mixed with alcohol, it can sometimes lead to death since they both have amnesic effects and takes away any inhibitions.

If overdose doesn't kill what are the signs of overdose then, is it really safe to overdose on lorazepam?

LiaAtha 03-31-2009 12:08 AM

NO NOT AT ALL!!!! overdose can lead to confusion, drowsiness, ataxia, high blood pressure, cardiovascular depression, respiratory depression and even coma!

In extreme cases, death can occur!

What is it about the prescription that causes such an intoxicating effect? Are there any drugs that would not have the intoxicating effect that could be prescribed to treat similar conditions?

Hmmn, now am confused. I thought it was nearly impossible to die with just overdose.

Blender 04-05-2009 09:59 PM

That's the problem with this drug, it all boils down to the dose and the level of tolerance you have... also sufficiently high dose can make your lungs and heart stop working, hence the death.

There are other concerns besides the possibility of rape, as well.
Ativan is an addictive drug, and a controlled substance.
It is very important to take Ativan exactly as prescribed by a doctor, as it has a risk of abuse and dependency.
