Prozac Now Mythical?

Thanks to a number of popular books, Prozac has entered into the lexicon of pop culture. Does anyone else feel it has become a "mythical" drug that people do not take as serious anymore as a result?

am not sure what you mean by mythical. For sure it is not quite accurate to say that it is not taken seriously. Doctors for more than 35 million patients in the entire globe have prescribed Prozac since it was launched 20 years ago. The fact that it is being abused by people who are looking for a quick fix but are not really clinically depressed does not take away the fact that Prozac is effective in at least 60% of people who take them.

thank you for that DocMon, I didn't know that Prozac was effective to 60% of those it was prescribed to. But I agree that Prozac has been very helpful as an antidepressant!

that's true, take only medicines as they are prescribed by your doctor, do not over medicate or self medicate!

I didn't know that Prozac was though of as Mythica. I'm not really sure what that means but when I took it many years ago, it didn't really work for me.
