Zoloft can cause serious depression as a side effect. That is the risk for many antidepressant medications. I think it is very important to monitor the patient's reaction to any medications they are taking.

When I first started taking it around 3 years ago I didn't feel anything from it unless I took more than the prescribed dose or drank alcohol, but people told me it improved my mood and social ability so I kept taking it.
My second year of college I stopped taking it because I started smoking weed, which was way better but hurt my grades. I was depressed after quitting the weed so I tried starting the zoloft again, but after a few weeks which started out as bliss, everything just got really, really dull. I wasn't depressed as in down, but it just kept me at the same basic level all the time. I wasn't feeling any pain or depression, I just wasn't feeling anything; it was very dry and dull constant level of faux-happiness. During this period I felt like it would be better to just die and escape the monotenous drudgery. When I stopped suddenly, hoping to feel things again, the painful withdrawal was actually refreshing. I've been trying to just keep having positive thoughts to counter depression, and it's been working pretty well so far. I'm not quite where I want to be, but drugs never seem to give me very lasting results. |

Different drugs cause different reactions in everybody. Some can take what the doctor first prescribes and some cannot. That's why the doctor needs to closely monitor the patient when they are first put on any antidepressants.

Your right Jeffery. Everyone reacts different to drugs. That`s why the doctor has to watch you and maybe switch around different meds until he finds the one that works for you.
