NO, PROZAC is approved by the FDA to treat depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, bulimia, and panic disorders in adults. It is also approved for kids and teens.

Prozac is a prescription drug, however.

My sister started taking prozac years ago, but her doctor took her off it after she developed pimples and rashes and when she could not even sleep.

It seems to me that your sister's system was not in tune with prozac. Don't take prozac if you're allergic to it or any of its components.

Specifically if you get hives or rashes, it could be a sign that your body is not reacting too good with prozac and might be a sign of serious medical conditions.

If you're taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor, another type of anti-depressant like Nardil, NEVER TAKE PROZAC!!! or any other prescription medicine for that matter, it could lead to serious life threatening complications!

You are also advised not to take prozac with Mellaril, an antipsychotic drug, as well as pirmozide.

I thought that antidepressants cause suicidal thinking in kids and teens. How come the FDA approved prozac for kids?

Well parents of children taking prozac are advised to balance the risk with the clinical need and to monitor their kids constantly. Telling them to watch out for, and report any, unusual changes in behavior, indicators of worsening depression, or suicide talk.
