Mushrooms aka shrooms the drug?

So my friend and I argued about this other thing. I've heard that shrooms are grown on cow **** and people just clean them and eat them in order for it to get you high. So she wonders if it is naturally grown on the planet like the other mushrooms where u plant it and it grows. Also she believes they add stuff to it in order for it to get you high. Can someone explain shrooms in a clear way and the effects when people eat them.

There a hundreds of different kinds of Psychedelic mushrooms that naturally grow on the planet, some need cow crap to grow, but not to add the psilocybin (name of the drug that gets you high) and other can grow out of tree stumps or whatever. This site will tell you more effectivly about the effects of mushies then i can.
