Exercise Addiction Exercising is healthy. Exercising to the point of dependency and compulsion is not, because those are the signs of exercise addiction.

Unhappy How to combat over exercising

Hi guys, I am new to this forum and desperately need help. I am an exercise addict and have no idea how to start overcoming my problem. I am at risk with my health and even knowing that just cannot seem to back off. I work out at least 3 to 3 half hours a day and I can honestly say I dont enjoy it anymore but it has become such a habit that I feel guilty if I dont do it. I am restless, irritable and my heart races if I cannot work out and my whole day is full of guilt. Why I just don't know, never use to be like this. Help how do I stop doing this to myself, it is not healthy. I have neglected my family, friends although my partner is very supportive and wants me to get help now. There is so much more to life than this, it is making me so depressed. Anyone with any answers that work please help me to understand what is going on and how I can sort my head out. Thanks

Overnight one cannot quit the addiction problem, what you can do is slow down the exercise habit slowly and steadily at regular interval gradually and after some time you will quit this habit of yours.

Default I thought I was alone

I can completely relate. I don't know how to stop, but I must.
I'm so afraid of the repercussions of my mind that I'd rather suffer through grueling amounts of activity than have my brain tell me I'm not "as good" or as "fit" as yesterday.

Track your physical activity by keeping a log. Jot down the length of time spent exercising, what activity you did and any relevant performance measures, such as distances, times, weights and reps. Add a few words about how you felt at the end of each exercise session for each entry.
