Default Who should take Lexapro?

What level of depression should a person be suffering from before it is decided that this type of medication would be a successful treatment plan for them?

How does Lexapro compare with effexor and other antidepressents? It seems like there are 10 different pills that all do the same thing.

If this were me...I would not take the Lexapro. These drugs seem to do more harm than good. There are so many side effects of these drugs its hard to keep track. Some of them are anxiety, weight gain, suicidal thoughts. The list goes on and on. It does sound like you might need a little help however so I recommend you try the St Johns Wort. Its has helped some people with mild to moderate depression. Also maybe if you can just see a therapist just to talk it would probably help. Talking stuff out is probably the best therapy of all. Exercise and sunlight will also be beneficial. Just be careful in the future with antidepressants. I wish the best....krissy

I have a friend who started on it about 2 months ago and it seems not to be helping him at all. I wonder how long you have to take it before it works?

How can you say it's not working. Did his doctor prescribe it? For what?

Hi Krissy.

Most drugs have side effects. This is why you should only take prescription drugs under your doctor's care. There has already been a discussion here on St. John's Wort, and I agree with you that it seems effective for depression among other things.

Thanks.

Yeah. It’s good to be yourself. Same with you, I will try to do something. So I support your decision!

These drugs generally affect more harm than good. There are so many side effects of these drugs is difficult to follow. Some of them are anxiety, weight gain, thoughts of suicide. The list goes on and on. It sounds like maybe a little help, though, It has helped some people with mild or moderate depression. Also, maybe if you just want to see a therapist to talk about it can help.

Lexapro has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment to relieve symptoms of MDD in both adults and adolescents and GAD in adults. You may notice an improvement in symptoms in a few weeks; though, you should continue taking Lexapro as directed by your healthcare professional
