| Ritalin Ritalin medication is administered to individuals with Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Attention-deficit disorder (ADD). Ritalin is also prescribed for conditions such as narcolepsy and chronic fatigue syndrome. But just like any drug, Ritalin side effects exist, Ritalin addiction is also a possibility owing to its being the closest pharmaceutical equivalent to cocaine. |

It Ritalin mainly prescribed to children? I usually here about a couple having to put their children on it, is this common for ADD?

I get the idea it's more commonly prescribed to children too but I've heard it can have very undesirable effects. I read something about the kids that did the Columbine school shooting being on prescription Ritalin I think, and the article seemed to imply it had an effect on their actions.

I think Ritalin is commonly used for ADD of ADHD but I have also heard of some adults being prescribed this as well. In fact a coworker of my husband's has taken this for many years. And you can tell when he has NOT taken it. Wow, the difference is amazing.

I think Ritalin was originally used for adults and it just became accepted for kids. I know an adult on it and it is obvious when she is not. I also know two kids on it, and they just seem drugged all the time. My personal opinion is that some just kids need attention but it is easier to give them this and it is setting them up for a lifetime of pill dependence.

From what I know Ritalin is used for ADHD. But the increasing use of Ritalin in disruptive behavior disorders has come under fire in recent years.

That's true Blender! ADHD may include hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity.

I think that the best way to treat ADHD is still behavioral therapy. But I do understand that it's going to be difficult for some without medication.

From what I've read, the best treatment depends on the child. But usually, it's a combination of different therapies. Ritalin should be one of them.

I've heard that some ADHD patients benefit from a diet that is all natural:no artificial flavoring, coloring, preservatives and other additives.
