Is there ever any instances where a doctor would prescribe anabolic steroids to an athlete? I know this goes on all the time in the sports world, but I am talking about a legitimate instance where they would be needed?

I think there may be times for there is a legitimate need for steroids. Often I think it prescribed for injuries where there is a large amount of swelling and in some cases the spine.

Steroids can reduce swelling and could be prescribed for that to anyone (sports athlete or just average person). I got hurt on the job once, hit in the ear. I could not hear anything. My inner ear was swollen. The doctor prescribed steroids and within 5 days the swelling was down and I could hear again.
I also think that it could be prescribed for inflammation? I remember a co-worker stating this. Their lungs are around that area were inflamed from being sick, they were prescribed some sort of a steroid. Steroids also cause weight gain, so most average people don't want to take them. |

they can cause trouble with your hormone levels and the medication needs to be gradually reduced in order to not shock your system.
