Hi,

What is the most common form of muscle relaxers that are used today? Are they in pill form or a topical cream that is applied to the spefic muscle group? What is it that casues someone to become addicted to muscle relaxers?

My gut reaction would be to say pill, since in my two past car accidents the hospital and my primary care physician jumped to prescribe oral muscle relaxers and never prescribed topical ones. However I am not an expert.

As far as addiction is concerned, the feel-good feeling that they give is going to influence addiction. If a person starts to think they need that feeling to cope, they are at risk of addiction. I would say oral muscle relaxers would be more habit forming because they affect more than just the target muscle group; they can temporarily alter one's mental state.

Yes they are prescribed in pill form, I was given those when I injured my neck. I do think they are habit forming so you have to be careful.

I ahve also heard that there can be some side effects that are very annoying, I would check with my doctor to see if there are alternatives.
