| Work Addiction While work addiction, or "workaholism" may be the most respectable, encouraged and praised of all addictions, it's also surprisingly deadly, claiming hundreds of lives of work addicts or "workaholics" every year mainly through stress related heart attack and stroke. |

I am going to borrow from the DSM and say that being a workaholic is only a bad thing if it causes "significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning," which is a major criterion for most disorders.
As long as the workaholic is content with their excess time spent working and their loved ones are comfortable as well, I personally do not see a problem... But then again I'm a workaholic as well! |

I think you can be overworked to the point that you can get very burned out and sick. I think one should seek counseling if it is beginning to be a problem.

I agree. Strike the right balance and we'll all be OK.

Being a workaholic is a both a blessing and a curse. You get a lot more done, and usually it means you love your job. however there can be severe health problems from the extra stress.
I hope that I get the perfect balance of loving my job, but loving mylife outside of work even more! |
