Ativan as a date rape drug

My friend told me that she was raped by someone she knew who used Ativan. She said her friend "slipped" something in her beer, and she became drowsy and groggy. She woke up feeling sore down there, and suspected that she was raped. She also found that her panties were missing. She took a urine test and confirmed that she had Ativan in her urine.

Just what is ativan? How come my friend doesn't remember anything, or if something did happen to her????

Well, they are, but these drugs have been known to render the victim unconscious, therefore less likely to resist. Another interesting tidbit is that 75% of all date rape victims who thought that their food or drink was tampered with some date rate drug were actually incapacitated by BINGE DRINKING! and not date rape drugs.

Hmmn... a date rape drug is defined as something that have sedative, hypnotic, dissociative, and/or amnesiac effects, Ativan certainly fits that bill!

The sad fact is, the victim may also die from the date rape drug as they have been known to induce respiratory depression, coma and eventually death! Especially in large doses.

Lorazepam, with brand names such as Ativan and Temesta, is a benzodiazepine drug that has short to medium-term effects.

It has all five intrinsic benzodiazepine effects:
anxiolytic,
sedative/hypnotic,
amnesic,
anticonvulsant and
muscle relaxant.

Ativan is widely used as a cure for anxiety and is sometimes used in chemotherapy as an antiemetic.

Lorazepam has a relatively high addictive potential.

Ativan is a relatively potent anxiolytic... it can treat short-term anziety, but is less useful with panic disorders. It also has a relatively potent amnesic effect. It is usually used as a general anaesthetic.

It is also a good cure for acute seizures if injected. The only side effect is that you are sedated for quite a long time.

Ativan is a CNS depressant, which masks alcohol withdrawal symptoms, specially in patients with liver problems.
