| Muscle Relaxers Muscle spasms and pain are relieved by muscle relaxers. A muscle relaxer or a muscle relaxant is a drug which affects skeletal muscle function and decreases the muscle tone. Muscle relaxers are often abused and can be highly addictive. |

I am prescribed Soma. My back surgery I had causes my muscles to ache if I overdo it. I don`t take them all day because I don`t want to get addicted. When I fist had my surgery I took them 3 times a day as prescribed. And believe me they helped a lot. Now I take maybe one a day. They can make you sleepy though.

I think that you should follow your doctor's prescription. If Soma is being prescribed to you for three times a day, then you should take it as such.

I did talk to my doctor about it and he said it was okay to just take it when I needed it. Not only can I not afford to take them 3 times a day, I don``t like to be drugged up all day either.

What amount is your prescription for? Three times a day seems a bit excessive if it is a long term treatment. I know there are other combinations they can use, so that you don't get addicted to Soma. It is possible that you might need a pain reliever not just a muscle relaxer.
I also take Soma, but only occasionally. They first prescribed it after surgery on my stomach. I kept having these horrible muscle spasms. Thankfully, they got under control. But, in addition to Soma they also put me on Neurotin, to help with nerve damage pain. I wish you the best. |

It never hurts to get a second opinion, some times a different doctor may have a new view or treatment that may work better.

I also take Soma. I take generic Vicodin too. Without them I am in severe pain all day. I`m afraid of getting addicted too. I only take them as prescribed but I have been on both for about 5 years now. What would happen if I stopped taking them? Would I go through withdrawl?

When I worked a job as waitress, a lot of my coworkers were using these (without a prescription...) to stay comfortable for shifts that could last 12+ hours. They seemed to help, but it was obvious that a few people there really couldn't do their job without them, and that always bothered me a little bit.
To be fair, I always had to take at least two advil/tylenol before my long shifts. It was hard work on the body. |

I began having horrible muscle cramps in my back and was given Soma. As soon as I took the first pill, I knew I was in danger of addiction because I liked it so much, so I began to see a massage therepist and was able to quit using them within a week.

I am allergic to Celebrex. I had torn rotator cuff sugery and that`s what they put me on. I was okay the first time. The second time I was put on Celebrex I broke out in hives and itched like crazy. My surgeon said that is happens like that sometimes.
