Drugs found in DJ AM's body

DJ AM had pills in his stomach and one in his throat when police found him dead in his apartment, a New York City official said Wednesday.

The official told the Associated Press that six pills were found in the celebrity disc jockey's stomach and that the pill in his throat appeared to be the painkiller OxyContin. The official didn't know how strong a dose each pill contained and wasn't sure what kind of pills were in his stomach.

DJ AM, born Adam Goldstein, had openly talked about his past addictions to crack cocaine, Ecstasy and other drugs.

He's had a really hard life. Apart from his drug addiction, he was an obese guy who had to battle self-esteem issues.

He was supposed to be off drugs already. In fact, in a rather intimate interview with Glamour in January 2008, he said he was already nine and a half years since he had a drink or taken drugs. How sad that he got into a plane crush last September and developed a dependency on anxiety medication.

I read that feature and he really was candid about his past. I found it really inspiring. I agree that what happened is so sad… DJ AM had been so proud of the fact that he was able to stay sober and drug-free for a long time. But he also acknowledged that he had to have a lot of self control because he knows that once he gets his hands on a glass of alcohol, he’d b be taking drugs shortly after. So candid!

Yeah, he was proud about it. In fact, in October, MTV was to debut a reality show, in which DJ AM and concerned families staged interventions for drug abusers. I don’t know if MTV’s gonna air the show now, especially with the drug implications in his death.

Police working on the case already said that circumstances surrounding did not indicate suicide. So far everything points to DJ AM having suffered an accidental overdose.

Anyway, more toxicology tests are being done to help authorities determine the real cause of death.
