About 15 years ago my son was diaognosed ADHD. His doctor also prescribed me Paxil. I went up to 170lbs on this drug. Since I have switched to Zoloft I lost 37 lbs.

I gained 30 pounds on paxil. I came off it real quick. That is the problem with prescription drugs---the side effects.

When I first started on Paxil years ago I went down to 115. Then my weight shot up to 170. I take Zoloft now. But the script I take for my ADD is straterra and that seems to keep my weight at 133. It also make me have a dry mouth so I laways have a bottle of water with me where ever I go. My pain meds do the same thing. But I have to have them.

That is true. Paxil has been known to impede some enzymes in your liver and that affects your metabolism. It slows it down.

I think the enzymes in question is leptin and insulin. But most probably the lessened leptin in your body as a cause of taking Paxil is what causes the weight gain. For one leptin is a chemical messenger that tells your brain about fats in your body, as well as reproductive instincts.

Thankfully, there are things you can do to stop the weight gain. I've found that vitamin E is good in controlling the weight gain.

My doctor also suggested Vit. E with omega 3 capsules. He said that these are the raw materials of leptin

You have to understand that some people actually lose weight with paxil. Maybe the leptin production is in overdrive. It could be the same mechanism involved with weight gain.
